Introduced in 1980 as the replacement for the Hatteras 53 Convertible, the 55 Convertible enjoyed a long and very successful production run. Her appearance was updated in 1987 when the front windshield was glassed over and the cabin windows and flybridge were restyled in keeping with the current new look of the Hatteras Convertibles. Two accommodation plans were offered with the three stateroom, galley / dinette up layout being the more popular. The huge cockpit came equipped with a molded tackle center, transom door and direct access to the 55's spacious stand-up engine room. The flybridge is huge with a superb helm layout and plenty of guest seating. No lightweight in spite of her cored hullsides, the Hatteras 55 is recognized as a stable fishing platform and a popular boat with anglers.
